The Future of Engineering Part II: Big Data
Course Number: 002
Fee: Free
Length: 2 Hours
Credits: This course qualifies for 2 PDH (unstructured) and 2 CEU (structured) technical learning credits issued by most US State Engineering Regulatory Organizations and all Canadian Provincial and Territorial Engineering Regulatory Organizations.
Online, Self-Directed Format: Primarily Text with Illustrations and Video
Course Description (Syllabus):
In Part 1 of this series The Future of Engineering, we discussed how The Internet of Things is exponentially feeding the Internet with an enormous amount of data. But where is this data going, how is it being processed and how is it impacting engineering?
In today's digital age, the utilization of data from IoT and other sources is revolutionizing engineering.
This course aims to provide an introductory understanding of the concepts of Big Data and its impact on different fields of engineering, covering topics such as its definition, sources, processing and analyzing methods, application in engineering, as well as the challenges and future trends in this rapidly evolving technology.
Learning Outcomes: By completing this course you will learn:
Role and Influence of Big Data in Engineering
Sources of Big Data
Tools for Processing and Analyzing Big Data
Applications of Big Data in Different Fields of Engineering: Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biomedical, Environmental
Challenges and Solutions in Big Data
Future Trends in Big Data and Engineering: 5G, Quantum Computing, AI
Who Should Take This Course:
Engineering students, engineers less familiar with Big Data and engineers who wish to update their knowledge of this rapidly evolving technology and how it is applied in their field of engineering.
Important Note: This course provides a foundation for future eMETA courses on the application of Big Data in specific fields of engineering.
